Thanks to Ostrava's candidacy, The White Book - 17 Stories From Ostrava's Cultural History was published, covering themes such as literature, drama, architecture and music and providing clear and concise information about the history of culture in Ostrava. A different view of the city and its history is offered in the fold-out book Mysterious Ostrava by Lucie Seifertová. This book consists of images with short texts that depict Ostrava's history and its legends in an entertaining way. The book was first introduced to the public during the OSTRAVA? exhibition, where visitors saw a giant version of the book. Another significant publication is the book OSTRAVA by Viktor Kolář, issued on the occasion of the photographer's upcoming 70th birthday. The book contains 146 black-and-white photographs from 1959 to 2005, with a preface by Jan Balabán. The book is also the accompanying publication for an exhibition set to take place next year in Prague, Brno and Ostrava. Another permanent artistic artefact that arose from Ostrava's candidacy is a memorial to the world-renowned film director and producer with Ostrava roots, origin Karel Reisz. The official unveiling of the memorial, which was designed by poet, painter and sculptor Marek Pražák, took place at the opening of the first Ostrava Camera Eye film festival in Ostrava last year and attended by film director Věra Chytilová and Karel Reisz's brother, Pavel Reisz. |
