Inspiration 2015 Colours of Ostrava
During the Colours of Ostrava music festival, the Old Aréna - Club for Culture and Information Ostrava 2015 will be transformed into an audiovisual discussion space for music and thought of the near future. Visitors will be able to enjoy films, music videos, discussions, interactive features, listening sessions, and events focusing on the independent music scene, music-related crime, transgender artists and social networking. This ‘cultural squatting' on Ostrava 2015 premises will last for four days and has been devised by the music journalist Pavel Klusák. Programme: Thursday 15 July 17:00 Heaven Twenty Seven: From the secret archives of Ostrava's Czech Television studio FILMS: Ecstasy of St. Theresa, Priessnitz, Prouza, Vltava, Psí vojáci! During the 1990s the Ostrava studio maintained close contacts with the emerging generation of Czech musicians. The documentaries and videos produced during this decade are still remarkable for their original, experimental approach and the freedom with which musicians were allowed to express themselves. Friday 16 July 13:00 Audio pirates: Between art and crime Audiovisual programme - A review of music history in the digital era, which brought with it a new temptation: to share, copy and mix sounds and images. Some outstanding artists have fallen foul of copyright law - though their radical and witty transformations of other artists' music (Michael Jackson, U2, Elvis Presley) were far ahead of their time. Negativland, John Oswald, Danger Mouse, Kylie Minogue! Films, music and stories - all mixed up together by the music journalist Pavel Klusák. 15:00 All Tomorrow's Parties (Britain, 2009) FILM - The most important music film of the past year, bringing together heroes of the independent scene: Nick Cave, Portishead, Animal Collective, Sonic Youth, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Fuck Buttons, Grizzly Bear, Belle and Sebastian, Battles and many more... all appear in this ‘DIY portrait' of the UK cult festival All Tomorrow's Parties. Saturday 17 July 11:00 Do it yourself WORKSHOP - Do it yourself! But how? CD, vinyl, mp3? What about distribution, promotion, and legal issues? What hurdles await those who choose to set up ‘DIY' independent labels? Discussion and advice from label owners. 13:00 YouTube party Interactive screening session - An interactive party featuring the biggest audiovisual archive in the world. Guests at the Colours of Ostrava festival will present their favourite YouTube clips - and you can join in!
