We are designing the Ostrava 2015 project in order to ensure that both the bidding process and (if successful) the Capital of Culture title bring great benefits to Ostrava – and this cannot be done without a lively and constructive public debate. Help us to shape the main themes and activities of the Ostrava 2015 project in order to improve quality of life in the city and help Ostrava’s citizens to make the most of where they live. The following questions might help inspire you:

Do you think that Ostrava lacks any particular type of cultural institution or any aspect of cultural life?
What would help you to enjoy your leisure time more?
What project or event would bring you the most pleasure or satisfaction?
What should Ostrava improve or offer in order to win the title European Capital of Culture 2015?

APPEAL 2. Help us prepare the bid – project proposals
The European Capital of Culture project offers an opportunity to implement a wide range of projects, ranging from ambitious flagship schemes to smaller-scale projects. We are seeking key partners for Ostrava’s bid to become European Capital of Culture 2015. As well as art-related projects, we also welcome proposals involving education, environment, science, social issues and leisure activities. If a particular aspect of the city’s infrastructure is lacking or inadequate, this is an ideal opportunity to improve the situation through a project proposal. We will support projects that create strong and mutually beneficial links between Ostrava and other towns and cities in the region, in the border area, with Ostrava’s existing partner cities, and with other towns and cities throughout Europe.

  • We welcome specific proposals by institutions or individuals who will be responsible for coordinating or implementing the project.
  • Projects may last more than one year. Implementation must begin before 2015. The projects may be located in Ostrava or in the surrounding towns and villages. Submissions can be made by organisations or individuals who are based or resident outside Ostrava.
  • We do not require any pre-set format for project submissions; nevertheless we would request that your proposals are no longer than 2 sides of A4 and that they include specific details (what – when – where – who – why – with whom), plus additional information e.g. on partners, budget and forms of financing.
  • Do not forget to give contact details (phone, e-mail).
  • Please send projects or ideas to info@ostrava2015.cz or to the postal address Ostrava 2015, 28.října 23, 702 00 Ostrava, Czech Republic. The dramaturgical plan for the bid will be finalised in May, and the bid will be submitted before 31 October 2009. For this reason, we would request that you send your proposals as soon as possible.
  • We will confirm receipt of your project.
  • If the dramaturgical committee chooses your project proposal to form part of the Ostrava 2015 bid, we will contact you if necessary to request additional information and details.
  • If your project proposal is not chosen to form part of the bid, we reserve the right not to provide information on the reasons. We are sure that you will understand our position. Thank you for your assistance!
