Stories from the exhibition

The Deník newspaper – one of the most widely read regional dailies – is carrying a series of regular reports (in both its printed and internet editions) informing readers about the exhibition OSTRAVA?, which is being organised in connection with Ostrava’s bid to become European Capital of Culture 2015. You can read the stories (only in Czech) from the exhibition every Saturday (13.6.,

) up to 31 October 2009. The stories will focus on the lives and work of the artists featured at the exhibition, and will also include personal reminiscences and photographs. The stories will be set into the historical context of Ostrava, the national scene (both the Czech Republic and the former Czechoslovakia), and the European scene. Readers will be able to discover more about the techniques used by the artists, the background and history of the works displayed at the exhibition, and the fascinating and often dramatic life stories of the artists themselves. The series of stories will act as an invitation to the exhibition, which will present the most interesting works of art created in Ostrava, about Ostrava, and in the wider Ostrava region. The exhibition OSTRAVA? is being organised as part of the city’s bid to become European Capital of Culture 2015 and will be held from 17 September to 25 October in Pavilion A of the Černá Louka Exhibition Centre. The display area will be 2400 m2. Not only in terms of size but also in terms of quality, the exhibition will rank among the foremost events in Ostrava’s cultural calendar in 2009. Texts prepared by Marcela Gajdová, Kateřina Ondřejková and Martin Pleva have been published in the following daily newspapers: (North Moravian Region) Moravskoslezský deník (Moravian-Silesian Daily); Culture Opavský a hlučínský deník (Opava and Hlučín Daily); Culture Frýdecko-místecký a třinecký deník (Frýdek-Místek and Třinec Daily); Culture Havířovský deník (Havířov Daily); Culture Karvinský deník (Karviná Daily); Culture Novojičínský deník (Nový Jičín Daily); Culture Bruntálský a krnovský deník (Bruntál and Krnov Daily); Culture
